SO₂ absorption cross sections in the UV-visible region

This dataset contains laboratory absorption cross sections of sulfur dioxide (SO₂) measured by Fourier transform spectroscopy in the UV-visible spectral region. It gathers data associated with three publications, including measurements at different spectral resolutions and temperatures.

1994 dataset

The txt files so2_2.nm, so2_2.nu, so2_16.nm and so2_16.nu contain SO₂ absorption cross sections measured at 296 K using a 21.1 cm absorption cell and a UV-diode detector. The spectra are provided at resolutions of 2 and 16 cm⁻¹.
For each resolution, the data are provided in two formats: nm files give air wavelength (nm) in the first column, while nu files give wavenumber in air (cm⁻¹). The second column contains the SO₂ absorption cross section. For the wavelength files, the wavelength scale was derived from the wavenumber scale and resampled to obtain a constant wavelength spacing.

2009 dataset

The txt files SO2_298K_24000-44000, SO2_318K_24000-44000, SO2_338K_24000-44000 and SO2_358K_24000-44000 contain SO₂ absorption cross sections covering 24000–44000 cm⁻¹ (approximately 227–420 nm). They combine the spectral regions reported in the two companion publications: 24000–29000 cm⁻¹ (345–420 nm) and 29000–44000 cm⁻¹ (227–345 nm).
Each 2009 data file contains six columns: wavenumber in air (cm⁻¹), absorption cross section (×10⁻¹⁸ cm² molecule⁻¹), systematic error (%), non-systematic error (×10⁻¹⁸ cm² molecule⁻¹), standard deviation (×10⁻¹⁸ cm² molecule⁻¹), and the number of individual absorption cross sections averaged to obtain each value.
