The auroral arc solutions zip file includes the set-ARC set of solutions for the auroral arc properties produced by the magnetosphere – ionosphere coupling model (Echim et al., Annales Geophysicae, 2007) from a solution of the current continuity in the topside ionosphere; this set serves to compute the SNORM factor (Equation 1 in the publication) which is a measure of how accurate the arc model is with respect to observations by ALIS. The values obtained for SNORM and the entire set set_ARC are shown in Figure 2.

The MIG solutions zip file includes the set-MIG of magnetospheric interface generator (MIG) solutions produced by a kinetic model of tangential discontinuities (Roth et al., 1996; Echim et al., 2007). These are Vlasov equilibrium solutions giving the self-consistent transition profile between two asymptotic states. Each member of set_MIG is at the origin of one member of set_ARC.
